* Monologue *
It’s Sunday. I look at the clock on the wall. 5:15 AM. Everybody is still sleeping. I hear the neighbor’s dog barking. I can’t go back to sleep. I woke up so early today; maybe around 4 AM.
I am so impatient. I can’t wait to go to the zoo again. Every Sunday, my family and I go to the zoo and spend the whole morning there. I love it so much. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that today is going to be different.
I am still staring at the clock face. 6:30 AM. I hear the alarm in my parents’ room. Five minutes later, my father is walking down the stairs. His shaky footsteps on the wooden stairs make me even more excited. I hear the stairs creaking, groaning and moaning under his feet. Each sound is endlessly long and deep like a hole in the darkness.
I listen to the clock on the wall. The hands of the clock creep slowly around. The sound tickles my imagination. 6:40 AM. My sister is taking a shower in her room next to mine.
Now I hear the loud ticking of the large clock in the hall. 6:45. My mother is talking to the cats in the kitchen. In five minutes, she will call everybody to have breakfast in the dining room, but before that, I have to wait.
Five minutes! Five minutes; it’s too long. While I am waiting, I keep hearing all kinds of things around me: the neighbor starting his car in the garage, a young girl walking her dog, an old couple talking near the bakery, and some people doing their early morning exercise in the park.
