SOCIAL & LIFE SKILLS
FOR CHILDREN IN FAMILY AND SCHOOL
FROM THE AGES OF 3 THROUGH TO 14
Children are social by nature
Man is by nature a social being with independence, creativity and consciousness. Children live and grow up in groups. Through the group the child, as she/he grows older, enters society.
The child first becomes involved in social life in the family, the primary collectivity. Then, the social nature of the child grows and expands as she/he attends formal or informal educational institutions. Children are most commonly enrolled in preschool (nursery) between the ages of three and five, though those as young as two can attend some schools.
The decisive role of the group
In fact, the collectivity as a whole is the main educational force where children learn not only language, but also moral values, psychological relationships, manners, standards of behavior and ways of thought, etc.
The group plays a decisive role in the child’s life and self-development. In particular, the group is a crucial instrument for the development of the child’s personality, mind, character and will.
The impact of collective opinion on the child
As part of a social group, children perform certain functions both in their home life and school life. Based on how well a child performs those functions, the group generates collective opinion on the child that reflects how others see the child.
The impact of collective opinion on the child’s psychological and mental health is so important. Collective opinion sharpens and polishes the mind and shapes the character and will. It can make or break the child.
What are social and life skills?
Social and life skills are the skills your children need to communicate and interact effectively, appropriately and adaptively in their social environment, both in family and school.
Indeed, social and life skills are very important for your children’s emotional health and well-being. They are especially important as they equip the child with the ability to deal with different social situations.
Social and life skills are all what your child needs to be able to form friendships and gain peer acceptance.
The importance of social and life skills
Sociologists and psychologists argue that children with strong and well-developed social and life skills are always happy and well-liked by everyone, whereas children with poor social and life skills tend to feel isolated and left out of the group, which makes them very unhappy and lonely.
Poor social and life skills often lead to stress and loneliness, which may be harmful to physical as well as mental health.
